We wish it were. . Generally when we think of prog We wish it were.

Generally when we think of progress we think of constant incremental positive shifts, but even with the action of these shifts the result is not generally linear.
.
This can apply to all areas of healing and health such as weight loss, chronic disease, pain, headaches, concussion syndrome, gut health (bloating, discomfort), regulation of menstruation etc 
.
I had a patient a few weeks ago show me her diet diary. She was down 4 Ibs and feeling a bit better but would indicate an unhappy face on the days she “cheated” with food. I told her those were not cheat days because most of the day was following her nutrition plan. We shifted to looking at the day as a whole instead of zooming into each meal. The progress was positive, and the goal is progress with a sustainable mindset not perfection. She left feeling proud of herself and not ashamed and demotivated.

Don’t stop the small shifts. We rarely see progress in a straight line. It is important not to measure the success of your therapies this way!

Adaptogens . You’ve likely heard the term Burn O Adaptogens

You’ve likely heard the term Burn Out, but understanding exactly what this means for you might not be on your radar. First, adrenal dysfunction also known as burn out or adrenal fatigue can be due to a variety of reasons. 
.
Typically, chronic stress results in symptoms that might include: fatigue, brain fog, low libido, craving salt or sugar, carbohydrate intolerance, mid day crashes, irritability, poor resilience, exercise intolerance, wired bit tired at night and more. 
.
It’s important to recognize that stress is different for each of us, and sometimes trauma or coping early in life can be the start of this. It might be caring for sick family, your job, finances, relationships, morning commute, an illness etc.
.
There are many ways to support your adrenals and adaptogenic herbs are some of my favourite. 
.
Adaptogens literally do just that, they support your body to adapt. Depending on the individual I might use energizing herbs, calming ones, balancing or stimulating, but generally I’m combining based on what my patient needs.

Take care of you . On the plane they’ll tell you Take care of you

On the plane they’ll tell you to put on your oxygen mask before the person next to you. And it makes sense. Even though sometimes our emotional centre doesn’t agree because how could your child, parent, loved one not be the priority?
.
Well they are. But your world only benefits from you, as long as you are well. It’s been quite the year, and I know I’ve definitely learnt a lot about myself (and my partner.)
.
Life isn’t so complex. It’s those foundational things that let you thrive, show up and feel good. 
.
Happy Valentines Day to you all. Give yourself some love to take a breath, some rest, some help, some laughs, some sleep or some of whatever you need to fill your cup just a little bit.

I cannot speak enough about the importance of preconception care. Especially if there are factors already influencing fertility such as substance use (alcohol, tobacco and cannabis), stress, auto immune disease, poor diet or lifestyle, endometrial health, male factor, menstrual complaints etc.
.
I see this in my practice a lot. Parents or couples family planning, willing to change their lifestyle for the sake of their baby or child. Parents who do testing on their kid, or call just to make sure things are ok, or switch products to clean or organic because they want what’s best for their child. It’s no different in pre conception care
.
It’s the same goal: a healthy family. And that does start with you. Your exposure to toxins, ensuring your body is filled with all the good stuff, that you know how to manage your stress, and any of the concerns you may have are being addressed to just set you up for better outcomes.
.
Fertility wasn’t an area I thought I would practice, but over the course of the last two years, it found me. It found me in all the couples who were able to have a baby, with filling in the blanks and really looking at the whole picture in their prenatal care. ❤️ It found me, and I’m so glad it did.
.
I’m in the mindset of healthy pregnancy.

The Holidays look different this year. . Spending The Holidays look different this year.
.
Spending time with loved ones makes the top of my list. And truthfully I’m pretty tired by the time the holidays arrive. It’s one of the busiest times of year in Clinic, and layered with the usual holiday get togethers, come Christmas Day I just want to sleep in, keep it simple and take it slow (this never happens!) 
.
This year is a bit different. I’ve heard the conflicting feelings that so many people have with the main concern being seeing their parents or grandkids this holiday. It’s not the gifts, the holiday parties, new years eve or dressing up- it’s the family and close friends that our heart craves. 
.
So whatever your holiday looks like, from my heart I wish you more time with your loved ones, good health and lots of joy!
.
I know this year has been a year of contemplation for many. Cherish the important stuff.
